The first presentation documented from archival sources is “ The
weeding of Lunxheri” by Koto lloxhi presented in 1874 from the fellows
of the normal school of Lunxheri. The first authentic drama is “Besa”
by Sami Frasheri - 1875, which although was written in Turkish, it had
an Albanian thematic. The first Hall Theater was built in Shkodrain
1890 form Jesuit Order. Till 1908 in archives was told for
presentations enacted on the stage mainly by teachers and pedagogues of
schools, although lines had an authentic theatrical character. For the
first time the theatrical clubs were mentioned in 1908 when show up
“Laberia”, Club of Vlora, “Vllaznia” of Shkodra, “Drita” OF
Gjirokastra, “Dituria” of Korea, “Aferdita” of Elbasan, and women
association ” Ylli i mengjesit”. In 1920-1930 when Tirana was founded
as a capital, Theater took a status more institutional. Dramatics of
that time except of the patriotic motive became more realistic and was
interested also on the social events. This was helped from Foqion
Postolis writings, Haki Stermillis etc. The beginning of the ‘40-s is
tightly bounded with the theater of National Liberator War. It’s groups
of theater were the core of the Professional State Theater and Dramas
School created instantly after war.
The first actors of the professional theater were Mihal Popi, Gjon
Karma, Mihal Stefa, Ndreke Shkjezi, Liza Vorfi, Behije Cela, Ndoc
Meshkalla, Hasan Rcci. There were famous actors who came very fast
from the amateur motion as, Marie Logoreci, Prokop Mirna, Sander Prosi,
Sulejman Pitarka, pjeter Gjoka, Lora Kovaci, Besa Imami, Vjoleta
Manushi and the new stage-manager who just got the diploma, Pandi
Stillu.
In 1945-1946 albanian state tried to orientate NTH, at least in three
directions: ¬providing a repertory of dramas of “socialist realism” by
East authors. Except of the repertory with a political influence, were
shown up world drama premiers: stage-manager - Gogol- coach S. Mio
1947, Othello - Shakespeare - director A.J.Ricko 1953, “Toka Jone” (Our
land) - director P. Stilly 1954, “Familja e Peshkatarit” (Family of
fisherman) ¬S. Pitarka director P. Gjoka 1956, “Hal iIi dhe Hajria”
(Halili and] Iajria) - K. Jakova director B. Levonja 1950, “Sherbetori
i dy zoterinjve” (The servant of two gentlemen) by Goldon director Z.
Adri - 1955. In 1956-1965 the theater was mentioned as really
professional. It was grown up with qualified stage-makers, directors
and actors. We will distinguish that in the repertory of this period
were shown up great writings of world dramatics as: “Intrigue and Love”
-- Shiler, director M. Luarasi 1957, Hamlet - Shakespeare - 1960, “Over
relics” - P. Pacrami - director K. Spahivogli - 1962, “Noble Bourgeois”

Cornora, director P. Stillu - 1964, “Uncle Vanya” A. Cehov director A.
Malo 1964, “King Lear” - Shakespeare director P. Stillu - 1965. In
1965-1972 are distinguished for national drama’s handling as an
important element in repertory and the gradual limitation of well known
writings of world dramatics.
In the repertory of this period we can distinguish as premier”
After Death” and” 14 years old bridegroom” by Cajupi, “Prefect”, by B.
Levonja, “ The general of Dead Army” Ismail Kadare, director P. Mani
and “Arturo Ui” Brecht director Pirro Mani 1971. In 1972-1985 we can
distinguish the far extreme politicization of the repertory of national
Theater, the punishment and the expulsion of some of the directors,
dramatists and actors as modernists and the diminution of the repertory
and premiers. The most successful premiers were:

1985. 1985-1992 arc the last years of dictatorship, till 1990 when it
was overturned and we had the beginning of the liberty. At that time we
can distinguish a wide foreign repertory, courage to touch taboo
themes, the first experiments and unproved virtuosity of forbidden
authors. We can mention some premiers: “ Death of a commissioner” - A.
miller director F. Haxhiraj -- 1986, “Palace 176” - A. Balashi director
A. Bua1joti, A Qesari - 1986, “Romeo and Juliet” - Shakespeare director

Brecht director A. Kumbaro - 1990, “Fox and grapes” - G. Figueredo
director Dh. Pecani, “ Third Richard” - Shakespeare director A. Qiriaqi
- 1992. 1992-2005 are the years of fundamental structural changes in
National Theater where are distinguished as occurrences: - the
appliance of the last methods of theater, - the absolute holding of the
repertory from the foreign lines, mainly comedy and tragicomedy, the
slump of the Albanian author lines, - the creation of the space to
build private companies. Some of the premiers - “Two gentlemen from
Verona” - Shakespeare director Dh. Pccani - 1993, “8 persons plus” F.
